Event Details

 

Dr. Peter J. Bergerson, PhD, professor of Public Affairs at Florida Gulf Coast University is the guest speaker for our May event.

Drawing on his extensive background, Bergerson will address a topic of intense interest to NPC members: The First Amendment and Freedom of the Press.

When: Thursday May 26, 11:30 am
Where: Bellasera Hotel, 221 9th St. South, Naples
Cost: Members $20, Guests  $25

Reservations are required. 

His talk will focus on the question of whether the amendment should be interpreted from an “Originalist” perspective or the “Modernist” version. Additionally, he will give his opinions on the Pentagon papers and the Wiki-link case.

Public policy is Bergerson’s forte. His PhD dissertation from St. Louis University was titled: The Diffusion of a Judicial Innovation among the American States: A case study of the Non-Partisan Court Plan.

Post Doctorate work included the James J. Malone Fellowship, National Council on U.S. Arab Relations, in which he was selected as one of fifteen academics to study and travel in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and was involved in daily seminars with government, business and academic leaders.

Bergerson has been in his post at FGCU since 2002.
